Sustainability and environmental impact

Specthetics is more than ready-to-wear. Our garments are designed to elevate the SPECific aesTHETICS of each individual. Core to our philosophy is producing high-quality garments that support and promote sustainable practices and minimise environmental impact.

We are focused on 4 areas:

Recycled materials

Specthetics uses natural and recycled materials where possible, utilising recycled polyester, cotton and other discarded or unused fabrics to create new ones and incorporate them into our designs.

Recyclable labels, packaging and stickers

- all our logo labels and care labels are made of 100% recycled polyester.
- all our garment packaging materials are recyclable.
- all our mailing bags are biodegradable and compostable (made of corn).
- all our stickers are compostable (made from sustainably sourced wood pulp).

Waste management

Our objective is simple: avoid wastage. We actively seek out dead-stock materials (surplus fabrics from factories) that we up-cycle. We always purchase the bare minimum amount of fabric. We keep our garments personal and our production quantities small to avoid excess stock. Specthetics takes pride in our small collections as they combat excessive consumerism and trend-oriented fast fashion.

In addition, we utilise our own scrap materials by making hand-sewn items using off-cuts from our sampling process. This creates a playful interaction with our community, giving them sneak peeks into the materials we are experimenting with and innovative products made from materials that would have otherwise been wasted and discarded.

Many people talk about how “zero waste“ is impossible as a goal for a garment brand. Specthetics thinks differently. As we make decisions and as we make our products we will continue to ask “why not?“

How we make Specthetics products

Who makes our garments matters a lot to us. We work at screening all our suppliers. Whilst there are various reports, certificates and other third-party assessments on suppliers, these are not enough. Most important for Specthetics is to visit our suppliers and their factories regularly. We require to see our garments being made and we build relationships with our suppliers. Only by doing this can we really know the working conditions in a supplier’s factory, how they act on safety, how they use chemicals, how much water they use, how they dispose of waste water, are they transparent, how serious they are about using new machines and technologies to reduce their environmental impact, and more.

Specthetics is an independent brand committed to sustainability and to reducing our environmental footprint. It is a journey and we look forward to continuing to make progress with your support.
